Weapon of Wijlre     Brand Beer, the beer that Limburg is proud of!     Weapon of Wijlre

The very first and most unofficial Brand Beer Page on the internet!

This is a page dedicated to my most favourite beer: Brand beer. It's brewed in Wijlre, Limburg, in the south of the Netherlands since 1340, and in 1871 it was taken over by Frederik Edmond Brand, and henceforth the brewery became the royal Brand Beer Brewery. Unfortunately, the brewery has been taken over again recently by the Dutch brewery Heineken, which is a real disappointment to the real Limburger.

I've scanned some old bottle-labels of four different kinds of beer that Brand makes, they are different nowadays, so I thought it would be nice to put them on my page:

Brand Pilsener Brand Sylvester
Brand Up '52 Brand Imperator

Here are some quotes from the labels on the bottles, it's in old Dutch, so I'm sorry if you can't read this:

It's possible for people in the Netherlands to become a member of a club called "Brand Uptimisten" (become a member, check out the official Brand Beer Page). This name is derived from the wonderful "UP" beer which stands for Urtyp Pilsener. This is a beer brewed in a very traditional way, not like normal pilseners are brewed.
In Maastricht there's lots of cafe's with Brand beer, because Maastricht is the capital of Limburg, and while Brand is Limburgian beer, it is served there a lot amongst others (Gulpener beer, Ridder beer, Alfa and Leeuw are also Limburgian beers). In Eindhoven, the city where I'm studying Building Technology, Brand beer is rarely served in cafe's, but my friends and I always go to our most favourite cafe in Eindhoven, which just recently stopped serving Brand: cafe 't Brugske (meaning: the little bridge). Since 2000 they decided to start serving Leeuw beer. It's a quaint little cafe which is worth going to if you ever visit Eindhoven.
